- 1 pound of fat = 3500 kilocalories - 1 calorie = 4.2 joules.
- 1 kilocalorie = 1000 calories = 4200 joules
- On average, an adult requires around 2200 kilocalories (2,200,000 calories or 9240 kilojoules or 9,240,000 joules) per day.
- Take note on the word 'kilo'.

In 'diet terms', the 'kilo' is usually stripped off (which means, 2200 calories (in diet) is actually 2200 kilocalories or 2,200,000 calories!). - But in food nutritional informations, kilocalories and kilojoules are used (which is the true accurate values).
- So don't scratch your head if you find that one bowl of cereal contains 384 kilocalories (340,000 calories) whereas you were told to eat around 2200 calories per day (which actually means 2,200,00 calories!).
